Amitabh Bachchan supports Indian cricket team

Thursday, August 18, 2011 0 comments

Amitabh BachchanThe Indian cricket team is getting brickbats after it lost its World No.1 Test crown to England. But Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan supports the team, saying that writing them off completely after the loss is a ruthless way of dealing with the situation.

’For years and till not too far away, our cricket team and its captain (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni were the masters. One loss in England and suddenly they are incompetent. People reaction is as subtle and as ruthless as this,’ Big B posted on his blog Bigb.bigadda.com.

’It requires immense acumen to be where they put you and in some manner to maintain it. Some understand the futility and the improbability of the situation and reconcile to it. Others and many others do not. Once there, they believe they are there and nowhere else. This is not entirely an adverse situation.’

’It is quite possible that it thrives too. Others succumb to the moment, understand and accept. This is not entirely wrong too. Both can co exist, its a matter of reconciling with its complexity,’ Bachchan added.

Earlier this week, Indian team tasted humiliating defeat after they lost the series by 3-0. The newspapers and the cricket legends have been criticising their performance in foreign turf by calling it Indian team’s worst performance in recent years.

Amitabh Bachchan Portrays A Flamboyant Character

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 0 comments

As the very title of the film suggests, ‘Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap’ has a very youthful feel. Amitabh Bachchan portrays a flamboyant character, who is extremely stylish. Though the actor of the millennium was happy with the overall appeal of the film, he felt there was something missing in the flick, and that was romance!

Buzz has it that the legendary actor has asked director Puri Jagannath to re-shoot a song picturised on Sonu Sood and Sonal Chauhan.

Narrating how excited Big B is about the film, a source while talking to a tabloid revealed, “Mr Bachchan is really excited about Bbuddah... He is going all-out to ensure that every department of the film is perfect. He felt that the film is too action-oriented and there isn’t enough romance. So, he has asked director Puri Jagannath to add some romantic elements in the midst of all the push and shove.”

Senior AB heard the song picturised on Sonu and Sonal and felt that the song lacked melody. So he had a discussion with music director duo Vishal-Shekhar to rework the song.

“When Amitji listened to the song he felt that it was not melodic enough. He requested music composers Vishal-Shekhar to compose another duet, ‘ the source added.

‘Dabangg’ baddie, Sonu confirmed the news and said, “He felt the song was not romantic enough. It’s been re-done. We will shoot it next week.”

By doing so, Amitabh Bachchan has proved that despite being 68, he is certainly not a ‘Bbuddah’!!!

Amitabh Bachchan Is Eager To Buy His Own Harley Davidson

Friday, May 6, 2011 0 comments

After riding what he calls the ‘beast bike’ for ‘Bbuddah - Hoga Tera Baap’, megastar Amitabh Bachchan is eager to buy his own Harley Davidson.

"What is it with men and the sound of a mean machine. The roar of a speed car, the rush of air and sound in a double exhaust bike, that kick of acceleration as you push the pedal flat, that jerk of change on the Concord, when it was functional, as it went from normal to Mach 3 at 55,000 feet in the air! Is it the same with the ladies too?" Amitabh wrote on his blog.

"Soon after it was the adrenalin pumping beast bike, the Harley `twixt my legs. And what a monster it is. I have to say though that having done it, and for the first time, it is an experience that now coerces me to have one of my own. OOOOO! Baby!! It is another world as you stride all the leather and studs and white metal that surrounds you. Quite something!" he further wrote.

Meanwhile, age seems to be taking its toll on the 68-year-old.

"Running at 70 is a bit of a bother! You feel you can move with some fluidity, but no! The legs do not respond to what the mind is telling it to do and you suddenly realize that the weight of your body is not that lithe anymore," he wrote.

"So as I sit down on my `blogespherechair` to fill in my adventures, I am cushioned with hot water bags and electronic heating devices to ease out the numerous folds of muscles, that had remained dormant and in retirement for a very long time," he added.

Amitabh Bachchan Is Facing A Tough Time Matching Dance Steps

Friday, April 29, 2011 0 comments

He may be saying ‘Bbuddah-Hoga Terra Baap’ in his next film, but Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan is facing a tough time matching dance steps with the young dancers and choreographers on the sets of his home production.

"My knowledge of dance has been excruciatingly minimal. And now with the modern day choreographers and dancers that have developed a style of their own, it is tough going for me!" Amitabh posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com.

The 68-year-old, known for his typical dancing style, has been rehearsing hard to pick up the steps.

"Matching the dance steps of the younger lot today is a nightmare for me ... desperately rehearsing in spare time to not look foolish!" he posted on Twitter.

"Really … the artists fascinate me on this issue. I see others lazily flow into a song and come out looking like a million bucks!! They must be terribly well designed to pick up what the move expects from them, in a jiffy. When I in the meantime keep seeking rehearsals, and retakes," he added.

‘Bbuddah-Hoga Terra Baap’ is being helmed by southern director Puri Jagannath.

Offering rich tribute to the late king, Big B described him as "humble, caring and considerate”.

Talking about the Jaipur royal family, especially Bhawani Singh, Big B wrote, "When we lived in Delhi at 13, Willingdon Crescent, a road that ran along the boundary of the President of India`s house, Bubbles would often drive past in his Ford Thunderbird convertible--a most favoured car with the young of those times. And as I would be walking across to South Avenue, some 100 yards away, to catch my college bus for University, I would see him impeccably dressed in his uniform, driving along and would wonder if I would ever be able to someday get a ride in it."

Recalling his first meeting with Singh while shooting for his film ‘Ganga ki Saugandh` in Jaipur, Bachchan says, "After joining the movies, I happened to shoot for Ganga ki Saugandh` in Jaipur and met him and spent quite a bit of time in his company and his polo buddies. A smaller palace of his that had been opened and refurbished for the Queen of England`s visit, was now converted into a private hotel and we were staying there."

"One evening he invited us over to a party at his friend`s place and graciously offered to drive us there. Yes & you got it & it was that Ford Thunderbird that I used to see him in with envy," Big B posted in his blog bigb.bigadda.com.

The Bachchan Family Is The Highest Tax Paying Family

Friday, March 18, 2011 0 comments

Its that time of the year again when everyone is busy filing income tax returns and so is Bollywood.

Over the past years it can be recalled that some celebrities have been the highest tax payers in the country such as Akshay Kumar with Rs 18 crores, Hrithik Roshan with Rs 15.10 crores and Shah Rukh Khan with Rs 14 crores.

This year, the Bachchan family is one of the highest tax paying family of the entertainment industry. A source says, "2010-11 has been one of the most prolific years for the Bachchans. Each of them has had multiple film releases.

They have also done an enviable number of commercials. So the collective earnings of the three have totalled up to an impressive amount. Hence they have ended up with these high income-tax figures.``

For the year ending March 2011, Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek and his daughter-in-law Aishwarya will collectively pay an income tax of Rs 37.55 cr!

This is a huge sum for a declared annual tax and it is good to know in an industry, where more black money floats than genuine money, there are still some people who practice honesty. And the Bachchan khandaan has clearly shown the way.

Amitabh Bachchan Used His Clout To Delay A Film

Wednesday, December 8, 2010 0 comments

Amitabh Bachchan

Film-maker Anurag Kashyap has stirred up a controversy by claiming that Amitabh Bachchan used his clout to delay a film that’s based on Chittagong revolt so that son Abhishek Bachchan’s film Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey could get enough eyeballs.

Shonali Bose’s small-budget film Chittagong that is based on the same subject and stars Manoj Bajpai as the revolutionary Surjya Sen, was meant to release in October, but it was delayed due to reasons unclear. But now, Anurag Kashyap, known for his brutal straightforwardness, has thrown light on the reasons.

Anurag has written on a social networking site: “See Chittagong, a far superior film made on the same subject as Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey... At 1/8 th the cost, far superior actors and immense passion...

Producers decided to sit on it, because of a phone call from someone, because that someone was trying desperately to save his son’s career... welcome to Bollywood, where whose son you are outshines all the hard work and passion and potential and talent. KHJJS came and went, now what?”

There can be no doubt that the “someone” referred to in the post is Amitabh Bachchan.

When the superstar was asked to reply to Kashyap’s allegation, he said he did not want to dignify an undignified remark by commenting on it. However, Big B did say that the allegation is ‘baseless’ and ‘incorrect’.

Meanwhile, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is on its way to be a flop.

Amitabh Bachchan Will Becomes A Farmer

Sunday, November 28, 2010 0 comments
Amitabh Bachchan

Bachchan the actor, world class. Bachchan the farmer, first rate. Or so, Amitabh Bachchan would have us believe.

Reportedly, the Bigger Bachchan who was in Lucknow to attend nuptials in the Sahara India Parivar, devoted time to indulge in a bout of farming at the 15 acres of land that he owns at Kakori, near Lucknow.

The onset of winters signals the sowing of the wheat crop and Bachchan Senior was all keen to savour the experience.

A close relative of Bachchan states in a media quote, "Before Amitabh came down to Lucknow, he gave me a call stating that since he was coming down, he wanted to visit the farm with Jaya as it was time for sowing the seeds and he wanted to oversee it personally.."

Adds the relative, "He also drove the tractor in all possible directions and he was quite excited over the whole thing, because he enjoyed every moment of it."

Expectedly, Bachchan’s post on his site conveys the excitement in full measure stating, "In Lucknow for a wedding…visited my farm… and…and…plowed my land… and drove my tractor, which digs and levels before sowing…"

The Big B is said to be expressly fond of Punjabi food and as per sources, he hogged on his faves: ’makke di roti de sarson da saag’ for lunch.

Indian Film Fraternity Remembered 26/11 In Twitter

Saturday, November 27, 2010 0 comments

mumbaiterrorattack

Members of the Indian film fraternity remembered all those who lost their lives in the Mumbai terror attacks on its second anniversary Friday. Many actors say the pain of the mayhem, in which 10 Pakistani terrorists held Mumbai hostage, killing 166 people, is still fresh in their mind.

Here’s what the celebrities had to say on micro-blogging site Twitter:

Lata Mangeshkar: Aaj 26/11 hai, 2 saal pehele Mumbai par jo aatanki hamla hua tha, jisme kai maasoom logon ki jaanein chali gayi, kai log zakhmi hue, kai ghar ujad gayein, un sabhi bhai behenon ko, bacchon ko, aur us me apne pranon ki aahuti de kar kai logon ko bachaane wale un mahan veeron ko, unki is behen ki bhavbheeni shraddhanjali...."

(26/11 and two years ago on the same day Mumbai was hit with terror attacks in which innocent people lost their lives, many got injured, many families were ruined... I pay a very humble tribute to all those people, children and the courageous people who sacrificed their own lives to save others.)

Amitabh Bachchan: 26/11! Horrors of terrible visuals, pride in bravery of our men in uniform and deepest thoughts and prayers for lost lives.

Abhishek Bachchan: Our thoughts and prayers with all those who lost loved ones on 26/11. We will never forget!

Madhur Bhandarkar: the second anniversary of 26/11. (I) feel so sorry for the innocent lives lost and (I) salute the martyrs. Doesn’t matter how hard Mumbai is hit, it has always bounced back with a bang, with a zest of life. Jai Hind!

Anupam Kher: 26/11 tragedy completes two years. And we are still debating about (Ajmal Amir) Kasab’s fate. A silent prayer for the victims and their families.

Pooja Bhatt: Amidst this barrage of corruption the nation seems to be subjected to I can’t help but feel that the fires of 26/11 still tragically rage on.

Diya Mirza: Have not forgotten and will not forget this date. 26/11.

Arshad Warsi: 26/11, a day that showed our weakness and our strength. I salute our security forces for laying their lives for us, and Mumbai for its resilience.

Ram Gopal Varma: We will never forget 26/11…We will never forget that we can die any time.

Pooja Bedi: 26/11 once again!!! And monster Kasab still not hung for the massacre caught on tape and eyewitness accounts! What strong message are we sending? My thoughts and prayers today with all victims of terrorism in India and abroad! Let’s push for swift and stern sentencing of terrorists!

R. Madhavan: Heart goes out to all who lost their near and dear ones in Mumbai on this day. We will never forget.

Kunal Khemu: 26/11- prayers for all those who lost their lives and for all those who lost their loved ones!

Amitabh Bachchan Beaten The Younger Heroes

Robot Premier (10)

Bachchan seems to have beaten the heroes of the younger generation – Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Actor Amitabh Bachchan seems to have beaten the heroes of the younger generation – Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, at least on the small screen. Bachchan, who is doing a phenomenal job as the host of ’Kaun Banega Crorepati’ had tough competition what with the popular Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar also occupying prime time slots on other channels.

The presence of big stars as hosts on the small screen paved way for a mini TRP battle, and Big B seems to be leading so far. According to reports, ’KBC’ - Sony - opened with a 6.2 Television Viewership Rating (TVR), while Salman’s ’Bigg Boss’ - Colors - fell short and clocked 4.8 TVRs. Akshay Kumar’s ’Master Chef’ - Star Plaus - failed to add the much desired spice in comparison with 2.6 TVRs.

A unit member of Star Plus’ ’Master Chef’ said, "It’s not a loss for us. Of course, every reality show has different sensibilities and formats, and the three that you are comparing cater to widely different range of target groups, each with a completely different set of demographics. Every show has its own place, every host his own seat and every channel its own goal."

Big-B-birthday-bash- (24)

Now Safedi Lal my dhobi wants me to hear about Amitabh Bachchan. Chalo, at least he’s moving up in life. Hai na? So, point is that the legendary actor is going to revisit is iconic look from his 1970’s blockbuster Deewar when he shoots for Kaun Banega Crorepati in a couple of days.

Reason: The Big B is playing host to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshay Kumar, who will play the quiz game to promote their forthcoming retro flick, Action Replayy.

Since Akki is sporting the retro look in real life till the film releases, he and producer-director Vipul Shah have suggested that Big B don his Deewar look once again.

Safedi informs me that Bachchan saab’s knotted shirt had become a fashion statement in the bygone era and so he’s looking forward to the legend revisit his ’angry young man’ look once again. Kewl!

Bollywood Songs Independence Documentary

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 0 comments

The songs of Bollywood - from "Aao bachchon tumhe dikhayen" to "Kajra re" - best portray India's journey since independence to the present day when it is fast emerging as a major power, says a Paris-based historian-filmmaker.

Vijay Singh has chronicled the journey of India through eight enduring and much-hummed Bollywood songs in his 64-minute documentary movie, "India By Song". The docu-feature, an Indo-French production, will be premiered Aug 14, a day before India celebrates Independence Day.

"My movie is not a straightjacket documentary - an overview of 63 years of Indian independence. There is a higher truth in it. I have tried to tell history by using Bollywood songs from the 1940s till date," Singh told IANS in an interview.

"Film songs are not just songs, they represent the emotions of the country. The songs are the best examples of women's emancipation - how the role of the woman has changed over the decades. Earlier, the woman acted coy while enacting love scenes but now the woman makes love to the guy from the top - virtually," he said.

"India By Song" features eight film songs and 11 interviews, he said.

"The movie features 12 minutes of songs, 12.5 minutes of interviews and four minutes of archival footage. I went on a 4,000-km journey by road from Mumbai to Amritsar with my French and Indian crew shooting India," Singh said.

The eight songs showcasing the changing socio-cultural and economic milieu of India include "Aao bachchon tumhe dikhaye" from "Jagriti", "Awara hoon" from "Awaara", "Pyar kiya to darna kya" from "Mughal-e-Azaam", "Inhi logon ne le lina" from "Pakeezah", "Dil ke armaan aansuon mein" from "Nikaah", "Choli ke peeche" from "Khalnayak", a short choreography by Saroj Khan, a sequence from the movie "Dhoom II" and "Kajra re" from "Bunty Aur Babli".

Explaining the choice, Singh said: "While Indians could relate to 'Awara' in its early decades of austerity and poverty, they could identify with the song from "Mughal-e-Azam' in the years after Jawaharlal Nehru's death.

"For the decades that India was trying to make it big, I chose a song from 'Naya Daur'. I tried to portray the Michael Jacksonisation of India through Saroj Khan's choreography and 'Dhoom II'," Singh said.

The people interviewed include historian Romila Thapar, cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi, Infosys chief mentor N.R. Narayana Murthy, Mumbai domestic help Anjali and Punjab farmer Suvinder Singh Kathumangal.

"The movie is a flip-flop - the songs punctuate the history of the country. It has plenty of pretty young women to balance the semantics with glamour to lure GenNext," Singh said.

Singh, a historian-cum-journalist-turned-filmmaker, has made critically acclaimed movies like "Jaya Ganga", "One Dollar Curry" and "Man and Elephant".

He has finished work on the screenplay of his new movie, "The Opium Symphony", based on his novel, "The Whirlpool of Shadows", which tells the love story between the second King of Awadh, Nasiruddin Haidar, and his European girlfriend.

He is in talks with big names in Bollywood for "The Opium Symphony" over the "the last two years".

"The movie will have five Indian characters and will be an international production," he said, pointing out that the script has earned praise from filmmakers Jane Campion, George Lucas, Shyam Benegal and Yash Chopra.

"Casting for movies in Bollywood cannot be dictated by the kind of actors I want, it depends on the availability of actors," Singh said. "It will be a big budget movie," he said.

Singh has written several books, including "Jaya, In Search of the River Goddess", "The Wounded Night" and "Authors, Places of Inspiration" (as co-author).
